A global leader in unified storage solutions, Nexsan, has released UNITY, a next-generation storage solution that combines scalability, performance, Flash and DRAM together with data mobility support and private cloud file system synchronisation.  The latest features that have been added to universal connectivity for Ethernet, SAS and Fibre Channel, as well as services including SAN and NAS, have been integrated into one single product.

IDC believe that data is double in size bi-annually, predicting a data total of 44 Zettabytes by 2020.  Data is generally stored in silos and thereby limits user access for mobile workforces.  High performance is demanded by users who want access to their information – unstructured or structured – at anytime, wherever they are in the world, via any device and security is a major factor to the enterprise.

Instead of having siloed storage, file sync, data management and security solutions individually and combined in a way that is often costly, unreliable and inefficient, Nexsan UNITY pulls together all these aspects in a single unified solution that is able to deliver multi-site collaboration at LAN speed that will support the business community and disaster recovery processes, provide high performance and mobile access to primary storage data.

UNITY offers enterprise n-Way Sync – the only enterprise filer to deliver high performance unified storage with site-to-site enterprise synchronisation – improving user productivity whilst leveraging an enterprise’s secure infrastructure and Active Directory, as well as access controls that will prevent unauthorised user file access.  This functionality ensures that data is in sync across all sites and locations yet secures content with encryption at rest and in flight, incorporating self-encrypting drives and encryption keys.  Users are able to access data while mobile when they need to and IT are able to ensure the security and control needed to remain compliant.

Patented technology supports all devices and provides a secure connection to data stored and managed within the enterprise, ending reliance on unpopular, old VPN technologies.  Mobile workforces will get the flexibility and freedom they need to access and share files across all devices, securely, for better data security and business productivity.

Bob Fernandez, CEO at Nexsan, said: “Today’s NAS and SAN storage solutions have ignored the need for secure access to protected data maintained within the enterprise.”  He added: “with Nexsan UNITY, we’re providing a means to extend primary storage across and outside the enterprise in a secure manner.  We’ve combined the power and performance of our Nexsan unified storage platform with the cloud flexibility of our Transporter private cloud file sync and share appliances.  The result is a unified storage solution like no other – providing simplified file sharing, secure data access and comprehensive data storage for the data centre.”

The majority of storage solutions don’t integrate mobile support.  Simultaneously, security, performance and cost concerns make the use of cloud-based solutions, such as Box and Dropbox, inadequate.  The alternative private software deployment that is based on ‘hub and spoke’ synchronisation solutions work efficiently but only when primary data is accessed from a single site.  Nexsan’s new UNITY storage solution delivers authorised access to files stored on UNITY via mobile devices, providing a patented method for connecting mobile users behind the enterprise firewall and the ability to connect users to other synchronised volumes of data available at other enterprise locations.

UNITY provides enterprise-class features for small, medium and large businesses and their FASTier caching accelerates performance to meet demanding I/O requirements.  The unified storage platform supports iSCSI connectivity, Fibre Channel, SAN and NAS protocols.  Unified SDD and HDD support can be tailored to deliver the best mixed application deployment environment, taking into consideration data growth and greater application performance when needed.  Nexsan UNITY brings together flexible, high performance data centre storage with private cloud technology using Nexsan’s Transporter group of private cloud file sync and share appliances, known for its secure file sharing capabilities and unique peer-to-peer approach to enable secure remote access to primary storage from anywhere, via any device.
