Said to be the most powerful system developed for an airborne ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) application, it is based on the OpenVPX open architecture standard.
The new subsystem is able to exploit and process large amounts of real-time sensor data, handle onboard storage for retrieval and forensic analysis, and send images to handheld devices or to ground stations. The real-time computing is via the integration of Intel® Xeon® server-class processors, GPGPUs (General Purpose Graphical Processing Units) and solid state disk storage arrays, which provides an open commodity-class server capability for SWaP-restricted airborne environments.
