ZONE SE7EN today launch the post event content to our live Privileged Access Management (PAM) Insight Zone Roundtable sponsored by our Platinum sponsor, Dell Security and our Gold sponsor Thycotic, together with speakers from the Cyber Management Alliance, RBS, King and Quocirca. All experts in their field, the exciting Roundtable delivered an informative, lively debate on the topic of Privileged Access Management, an interesting Q&A session and an exclusive Executive Interview with Jackson Shaw, Senior Director, Product Management, Identity & Access Management at Dell Security.
Privileged Access Management and super-user accounts are key areas for IT professionals worldwide that need to be managed effectively within organisations, allowing privileged identities to be automated using pre-determined criteria such as authentication, password management, lifecycle management and a range of access controls to help prevent cyber security attacks and data breaches both inside and outside the organisation. As the need for greater governance and compliance grows to meet regulatory requirements, sophisticated PAM and information security solutions are being implemented including privileged user accounts that include provisioning, authentication, password management, lifecycle management, auditing, authorisation and a range of access controls that will help to prevent cyber security attacks internally.
Our participants of the PAM Roundtable comprised of Alan Radford Principal Solutions Architect IAM at Dell Security, Joseph Carson Product & Marketing at Thycotic, Amar Singh CEO & Founder at the Cyber Management Alliance, Bob Tarzey Analyst & Director from research organisation, Quorcirca, and Matteo Ferrara Head of Identity & Access Management Operations, C&IB Information Security – Access & Identity Management at RBS who discussed a range of topics including what to consider when putting in place a Privileged Access Management strategy; encouraging staff buy-in, PAM guidelines and policies; the critical tools needed to manage permissions and super-user accounts; reducing the attack surface; third party privileged accounts; federated access; compliance and governance.
Alan Radford from Dell Security advised: “Rule number one is really engaging with those privileged users because ultimately, nobody understands your environment better than your privileged users.”
Joseph Carson from Thycotic added: “Anything that’s not in the policy is very difficult to measure and very difficult to enforce so, the policy is a very important item of concept.”
Matteo Ferrara from RBS tells us: “Passwords and privileges should be reviewed on a regular basis; logs on a day-to-day basis for privileged access; and the relevant controls as regards those from an escalation aspect, and a review of those privileges.”
Bob Tarzey from Quocirca says: “Federated access management is being able to manage the range of users from different sources; you need to have a federated view of who’s got access to your information.”
Amar Singh from Cyber Management Alliance concludes: “I think that a lot of the time privileged users, privilege of the management of the users, is still not understood, not many people get it. People are not willing to ask, what does that privileged user account actually entail?”
